I am trying to identify what the safe distance is for working near overhead low voltage power lines.

We are errecting aluminium columns and some of them will be in the vicinity of overhead LV (<1kV) powerlines.

More details please, like:- Height of columns How close to power line How erected (crane?) etc etc As a rule of thumb, I'd suggest that ideally nothing, people or equipment, comes within 5m of the overhead line, including any failing lifting equipment. Can the power be cut off for the works to take place?

Would not be easy to get lines turned off as these will in general be the domestic supplies on poles - note these will not normally be above 6 meters high in line with supply regulations and heights of power supply lines.

Power Lines can be less than 6 metres above the roadway

The installation could often be the same as installing street signage which is often quite high as well but has to be in a specific location to comply
