Hi Darren

Lots of proprietary templates on offer (at a price).

Personally, I would consider the type of construction work you do and mostly work from first principles.

.....not forgetting occupational health and welfare, which tend to be put in as a bit of an afterthought on many templates that I have seen in use.

There are few companies in "construction" that are what might be called "typical". There are plenty of consultants who will offer the same template whatever the nature of the contractor.

So what would work for a groundworks subcontractor isn't going to work for a heating and ventilation contractor.

Similarly you need to look at numerous other variables. As example, are you doing domestic work directly to clients who haven't got a clue about health and safety or working e.g. as a sub-contractor to "Tier 1" suppliers to a major client.

Hi Darren,  Peter speaks sense, I made my own a few years ago by listing the items I thought should be looked at, I made a column for yes, another for no and ticked the yes and crossed the no's.  another column for 1 point for the yes and nil point for the no's.  then total up all the points scored and calculate the percentage.  easy to do using your iphone or similar.

You then have a scored inspection.

As Peter says if you use you own work for the list you will be fine.

You can have a Comments column as well and don't forget your page for your requirements.

I had them printed in pre carbonised pads, original for the site, first copy for the management, second  copy for myself.

I hope you can understand the above.  Good luck.

Hi Sorry for Hi-jacking this topic but I'm looking for a CDM NI topic.  Unable to locate it in a search and unable to start a new one.

Please help.

Thanks

as above, make your own. This can easily be done in google forms as a quiz setup.  you can assign points to each "correct" answer on the go, and it will give you a score at the end.

Do you mean a safety audit, or an inspection? It's important to be clear about this, as they are two different beasts.

We use an iAuditor (a free app) to produce site inspections - the advantage being that it can be completed (including adding pictures) in real time - i always send the completed report to my clients before I leave the site.

I would alos say  that i am NOT a fan of scored inspection reports - site staff will tend to concentrate on the score rather than the issues raised, and if they can say to their boss 'we scored 97% this month' they will all think they are doing a good job withoit thinking about what cost them the lost points.

I prefer the terminology "satisfactory/unsatisfactory/immediate action needed, with recommendations as to how to address the issues noted (and action-by dates).
