Posted By Stuart Bower Following the publication of the latest HSC guidance on Directors Responsibilities I wonder if anybody who works in a Local Authority type of environment wonders what's happened to any mention of elected members. The guidance would appear to be saying that the 'senior management board' provides the strategic oversight and direction. This may well be true on a day to day basis but what are the implications if members then do not make the resources available to do the job properly? Any thoughts or comments welcome Stuart

Posted By Jay Joshi The HSE press release for this guidance states "The HSC is due to publish supplementary guidance in the autumn to provide further advice on implementing the recommendations to assist those directors and senior people in public and voluntary sectors and directors in companies with complex structures." We await the supplemantary guidance

Posted By Ian Waldram The Audit Commission have very recently published a useful management paper titled "Worth the risk - improving risk management in local government". This deals with risk management in general, and mentions health & safety as a subset. The respective roles of members and officials are discussed, so you might use that as a starting point, whilst awaiting the HSE publication?

Posted By Stuart Bower Thank you both for your comments. I think it a shame that the guidance doesn't cover some of the largest employment groups in the country and we have to wait for further guidance later in the year. I suppose thats life!! Stuart
