Posted By Sean Westerby I've been given the task of producing some performance standards for health and safety. I was just wanting to know if anyone has been given a similar task, and if so how did they set them out? I am just wanting to get started, can someone help?

Posted By Nick Higginson Sean, Some key reference documents that may be of use in this: 1. HS(G)65. 2. Neil Budworth produced an excellent document on Performance Indicators. If you can't get hold of it, let me know and I'll see what you can do. Regards, Nick

Posted By T. Fowler In the NHS we have controls assurance standards, which are effectively performance standards, covering all areas of our operation. One area is health and safety. This standard can be found on http://tap.ccta.gov.uk/d...CAStandards?OpenDocument It is one measure of performance that opens up into criteria such as 'compliance with h&s legislation is routinely monitored'. To be able to comply with this I have integrated this reponsibility fully into the organisation by summerising all the relevant regs for our managers and getting them to monitor their own performance and set their own action plans. I complete the managerial loop by carrying out an audit function. This satisfies another of the criteria that 'the audit function, including h&s specialists, carries out periodic audits to provide assurances to the board that an adequate system of h&s management is in place'. If you want you can have a copy of my efforts as described, for adaptation your own situation. My e-mail address is tonyfowler@nhsstaff.org.uk
