Freelance, apologies if I sounded sarcastic or flippant, I must confess to not being an academic. The aforementioned definitions, in my opinion were too vague and woolly to be of any use to me, who would prefer those laid out in Jays post. On the practical side, as an organisation the definitions really doesn't make alot of difference to us as we use a reporting system that incorporates accidents, incidents, near misses and hazards on one form, which is then analysed and acted upon, e.g. reviewing/generating risk assessments, RIDDOR etc

Not a problem, I think this has been an interesting post overall. I think Phil sort of nailed it for me though.

You're all wrong. My mum defined both injury and near miss as a "mishap" - mother is never wrong!!
