Hi all,
just passed my dip 1 and have held a gen cert for 4 years. Currently working in an operations role for a pharms company in the bulk chemical dept with responsibilities for COSHH, working at height, confined spaces etc .
With little chance of securing approval to get Dip 2, I am considering leaving but would love to work in Africa.
Question. In peoples experience is it better to try and secure a position with a UK company and get posted overseas or try and source a position direct ?
Thanks
Sean

Sean.
There are vacanices in the dark continent, in places such as Egypt, Algeria, and Nigeria, but mainly in Oil/Gas and lots of experience in this field is usually required.
Ditto in the middle east, mostly as all the expats have made a move elsewhere, hardly suprising really... If you're serious about working overseas, there are a number of agencies that post overseas jobs and there are on-line subscription services, such as expatexpress that you can subscribe to for vacancies, but these are nearly all Oil and Gas jobs (typically 10/15 years experience required.

Have a look at the Daily Telegraph electronic JOBS page.
They list a number of brit and overseas oportunities.
Unfortunately most of them are in rather dangerous parts of the world.
Be careful where you sign up to!

Sean,
The following email address and website is excellent for overseas work www.expatsdirect.com / info@expatsdirect.com. It will cost you about £55 per year, but I am a member and it is worth it. There are opportunities in construction as well as MANY oil & gas opportunities. You will find that the common places for work are UAE, Libya, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Sakhalin Island (Russia), Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Malysia. Some of these require offshore experience which I have, but the onshore jobs are out there.
Good Luck, Keith Morison
