Posted By Mal Greenhouse I am about to retire early, aged 52, from Royal Mail with a Nottingham Trent Dip, MBA, D35 and Further Education Teaching Certificate. I work part time for the Open University and also teach on a NEBOSH Cert. I have available, as part of the severance deal, a training bursary of £500 +VAT for training courses. This could be increased to £1000 + VAT for a single course.I wish to seek work as an associate consultant and therefore want to take a course I could subsequently lecture/train on. I was thinking of CPC (Transport) or asbestos courses. Anyone any other suggestions please.

Posted By Jim Walker Mal, Why don't you ask you current boss? Allan St John Holt lurks on this site. Why ask us mear mortals when you have direct access to God (well nearly!) himself. Tug yer forelock at the appropriate time and he might up your financial allocation.

Posted By Stuart Nagle Mal. CPD would appear to be the way forward, and being able to offer members (and others) reasonably priced CPD courses and lectures etc may be something to consider. In respect of IOSH Managing Safely and other IOSH courses, I understand that to purchase the training materials to run each IOSH course will cost you round about a £1000, but they do come in a nice plastic case though!! as far as taking training courses is concerned I could suggest: Lead auditors courses (OHSAS 18001) that carries IRCA certification. Quite a few wanting auditing services and training in this area appears to be few and far between... New Roads and Street Works Act certification courses... for roadworkers (Local Authority and contractors), always seems to be in demand as this is a 'must have' before being able to undertake works on the public highway these days....but obviously includes the practical elements, so a venue able to do this is a must and the necessary skills to do it!! NVQ assessors qualficiations are always worth considering, e.g. NVQ 4 Occupational Health and Safety Practice, and you would need the award yourself before being able to offer assessment in this... With your experience and qualficiations, it would not seem beyond the realms of possibility that you could develop your own training courses and media, rather than pay for it.... One of the bigest problems is of course getting a location to run training courses from, as not everyone wants to have them on-site in the workplace, or it may be that they have no place to run training courses. I would also suggest finding out what your local colleges etc do or do not do and perhaps offer services in this direction... Stuart
