Posted By Arfon Williams Having just passed my NEBOSH Certificate I am unsure, from reading some posts here, about my future choices. Will taking the Diplomas 1 and 2 help, or should I proceed to the Level 4? I would like to crack into the H&S job market, but there appears to very little for those who hold just the Certificate. Finding an employer who may be willing to pay any future course fees makes it even more difficult. I am in the lucky position that my current employer is an educational establishment who run the Level 4 and will waive the course fees, but that will mean a two year wait to find employment in H&S. Would the H&S experience gained in that two year period be more beneficial? Any advice would be most appreciated

Posted By Neil Evans NVQ requires a considerable amount of practical work. Unless you have a experience that demonstrates competance the diploma route is your best option. I ontained my qualification via NVQ.

Posted By Roger the Dodger You can also achieve the diploma equivalent and MIOSH membership via study with the Open University. This route could save you money conmpared to some Diploma courses/providers.

Posted By Kate Graham Why take the risk of starting Dip 1 and 2 when they are are soon to be withdrawn, leaving you high and dry if you haven't completed both? Level 4 diploma makes much more sense than 1+2. NB Nebosh Level 4 Diploma is a completely separate qualification from level 4 NVQ, I wish they had called it something else to avoid confusion.

Posted By Mark Talbot As a person who has recruited and mentored other people, if you can study and work at the same time, you will get there faster. Being in a practical situations really helps with the coursework too. BUT... it is a hard slog!

Posted By Steve Garnett All I had was a certificate when I joined a consultancy firm; it was hard going at first, though I did have a lot of practical experience in the field they wanted. I took the Diploma level Part 1 with my previous employer, If I wanted to go further they would of made me sign a training agreement which meant that I could not leave without finical penalty 2 years AFTER I had completed the course. If you are happy in your current work environment then I would suggest you stick with your plan. What’s 2 years when you consider the amount of doors that will become open for you when you have gained your qualifications?
