Posted By Tom Cobb Hi all, I am very new to the forum so please bear with me.
I am looking at undergoing my Level 4 Occupational Health and Safety course but the difference in prices has made me very wary. For example a college near to me (Barnsley) offers this course for £1500 whilst a company in Sheffield offer the same course for £5500.
My questions are: is there a difference in the courses offered? (I dont think there would be)
Does the more expensive course offered by the private company offer better tutorial and course support?
Is the Level 4 Diploma a worth while route to follow?
Many thanks
Tom

Posted By Coshh Assessor The college may get a subsidy for running the course - the commercial company won't. It doesn't mean the college will be any worse in quality.

Posted By GeoffB Ask both for contact details of delegates on the last course they ran and see what response you get.

Posted By Charley Farley-Trelawney I agree with Geoff, try also to obtain a percentage of passed canditates 20% for one and 80% for the other and you have your answer.
Money plays a part as well, but it may as well be thrown away if the cheap course is not run that well, not that I have come across one yet...............

Charley

Posted By Neil Evans I did the NVQ4 through a colledge. The NVQ is evidenced based. You will have to demonstrate that you have the practical skills as well as the knowledge. For someone employed in H & S this is a good route.

Posted By Steve Hickey I am in the process of doing the NVQ4 with Linda Crossland-Clarke, along with 2 other colleagues. We are all extremely happy with the professional way in which the assessor Dave is helping us through the process. The price is also very competitive, would recommend her company to everyone considering the NVQ route.

Posted By RosieJ This is probably a little late in being posted to you but why don't you try Prospect Training in Hull? I belive they cover a wide geographical area and Sue is an absolutely brilliant Tutor / Assessor and Mentor. I completed my NVQ4 2 years ago through Prospect having secured 50% funding from my local LSC whilst working in the private sector.

Posted By Adele for me a college is equipped for learning and for students and it should offer you all the facilities you need. A college can offer such a course lower perhaps because it is funded and therefore wants to encourage learning whilst a private organisation would only be interested in making a profit from the course bookings it gets.
Perhaps go and see both places and get a feel for it yourself... also consider the types of people booking with each facility as this could be a weighting factor with whom you choose to learn with.
