Posted By Alan Hewett A vacancy has arisen in our Health and Safety Team at City of York Council. Closing date: 17th June 2005 Your role will be to provide support and advice to Directors, Senior Managers, Service Managers and staff on all operational issues to ensure that the Council discharges its legal obligations and that all employees (and others affected by the undertaking of the Council) have a safe and healthy working environment. Assisting in the development and monitoring of the implementation of the Council's policies and standards, you will also be a lead Health & Safety Adviser for key areas of responsibility. Experience of health and safety in an education-based environment would be an advantage, as you will be the first point of contact for schools. With a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and a member of IOSH, you must be decisive and assertive with a proactive approach and a commitment to continuous improvement, working to establish health and safety at the heart of our organisational culture. For an informal chat please contact Lesley Sharp, Health and Safety Policy Adviser, on (01904) 554522. Interested? Take up the challenge and request an application pack from ian.young@york.gov.uk or ring (01904) 551728 or (answerphone) (01904) 551732. Closing date: 17 June 2005. Interviews to be held in July.

Posted By Emma Atkinson Alan Can you confirm that both posts require the same qualifications? I am currently NEBOSH certificate qualified with 5 years experience within the Health and Safety Executive, the last 2 involving providing advice and guidance to dutyholders. I am also hoping to relocate to Yorkshire from Cumbria where I presently work. Emma

Posted By mark ryan I am currently studying for a degree in Health, Safety and Environmental Management, at the Nottingham Trent University. I am starting my second year in September after achieving good grades in all modules. My thoughts are now turning to my placement year which I hope to start in June 2006. I would greatly appreciate any help, advice or offers. Thanks, Mark Ryan. markoryano@hotmail.com
