Paul Craythorne Associates are a network based health, safety and environmental consultancy based in the West Midlands and supporting clients across the UK.

Our workload has recently increased to such an extent that we now have a need to recruit an associate consultant to provide specific support to enable the company to meet the existing and future needs of its clients.

The ideal person must be self employed with the availability to allocate between 15 and 20 days per month to help us meet demand. The person must also reside within the West Midlands area (preferably Birmingham).

In addition, the ideal person must also have the following attributes:

* Appropriate qualifications in health and safety (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma/NVQ Level 4/Post Grad Diploma).

* Membership of a relevant professional body.

* At least 3 years experience as a practitioner, consultant or enforcer.

* Auditing experience (preferably to OHSAS18001/HSG65 standards).

* Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance to a minimum of £1,000,000.

* Excellent communication and report writing skills.

* Excellent time management skills.

* The ability to grow exisitng business and search out new business.

The position would ideally suit someone who is currently in a full time role and looking to move into consultancy but who needs that first break and some guarantee of income in those early years. This position is quite imminent so a long notice period with a current employer is likely to be a non starter.

If you are interested and have what it takes to succeed in a role like this then please email me with your CV and a covering note briefly explaining why you believe that you are ideally suited to the role.

I must stress that I am not looking for people who live outside of the geographical area mentioned above.

Regards,

Paul Craythorne

Good morning Paul
Except for your extremely clear restriction on where a potential candidate lives, I could fulfil your criteria. It appears to be an unnecessarily restictive requirement in the circumstances as the post seems to be essentially "self-employed" rather than employed; in which case they will be responsible for thier own costs.
Would you please be so kind as to identify why it is so important that applicants live within the West Midlands? And do you mean the Administrative area or just the "general" area?

Frank,

Do you always criticise the criteria of jobs that you may be interested in applying for?

The reason for the 'Unnecessarily Restrictive Requirement' as you put it is that The West Midlands is where we are based and we want a very close team relationship with the individual who will be working with us.

This apart, the West Midlands is a good geographical base for access to many of our clients.

At the end of the day it will be us paying the individual so we surely must be entitled to state some conditions?

If you want to apply please send us your CV but please be mindful of the 'Administrative and General' area of the West Midlands.

Regards,

Paul Craythorne

Good evening Paul.
Thank you for your extremely clear response; I wasn't being critical of the criteria specified - just curious as to the perceived need for such a restriction and your answer has provided that.
I shall not be taking up your offer of submitting my CV for the post though I thank you for the opportunity.
Good luck with your search.

Frank,

Glad you are wiser now.

I hope you can understand the need for very close and regular contact with such a position as although a self employed position it is very much a dedicated position.

Regards,

Paul Craythorne

Dear All,

This is potentially a good opportunity to get involved in some diverse work and earn a good income if you have the necessary drive and enthusiasm.

I have had some response but would welcome more if there are any others out there who relish a challenge.

Regards,

Paul Craythorne

Good morning Paul, I've just read your response.
I'm sure that wisdom in some version or context is relevant, but I'm not sntirely convinced that we're talking about the same version of it here.

Ultimately, you have the right to impose any restrictions thatyou choose on your working relationships with those to whom you offer work and I suspect that the range of challenges that you provide will be interesting.
Good luck with your continued search for your Associates.

Good morning Frank. You were up bright and early on a Saturday morning.

You call them restrictions and I call them requirements. Whatever they are they are an important consideration.

I am beginning to enjoy our little chats. How sad is that? If nothing else they keep my posting at the top of the page.

Dear All,

I am suspending this request at present and will resurrect it again if necessary. I have had a good response and will be conducting interviews over the next week or so.

Thank you to all those who have expressed an interest (even Frank!!!).

Many thanks for the mention Paul. Maybe I was useful in keeping you at the top of the list even I do come from an almost civilised part of Essex!
