Don’t WASTE your talent. We collect refuse from 319, 300 households, and process 338,000 tonnes of waste each year, providing a vital service to the people of Leeds. We consider the safety of our staff equally important. We’re looking for an individual with a fresh approach to health and safety to work with our refuse collection and waste management service. This job guarantees daily variety, and a broad range of work in a high profile, customer facing service. The Health and Safety team is responsible for the provision of a full range of Health and Safety issues throughout the Department, and is currently looking to appoint an Health and Safety Officer who will be responsible for developing, managing, and co-ordinating the implementation of the Department’s Health and Safety Policy and Safety Management Systems. Applicants for the post must be a corporate member of IOSH with a NEBOSH diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years experience in a health & Safety role, a sound knowledge of current H&S legislation is essential for the post. Duties amongst others include providing specific advice and working with managers to improve the delivery of Health and Safety and contribute to work with others across the HR teams to achieve positive outcomes. We want an excellent communicator who can interpret, evaluate, advise and deliver on all Health and Safety issues. We are looking for staff who can make decisions when required but who can work within constraints and limitations. You will need to be able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team. You will need to be able to demonstrate self reliance and self motivation, and have a flexible approach to respond to a dynamic, changing and demanding workload. Applications from women, disabled people and people from black and ethnic minority communities are particularly welcome, as these groups of people are currently under represented.

Posted By mark ryan I am currently studying for a degree in Health, Safety and Environmental Management, at the Nottingham Trent University. I am starting my second year in September after achieving good grades in all modules. My thoughts are now turning to my placement year which I hope to start in June 2006.
