I have no doubt that this old chestnut of "what qualifications next?" has done the rounds in the past, no harm in trying once again.
After reading the thread on MIOSH/MIIRSM, this has certainly caused several concerns with regards to my own personal & career development.
I have been employed in various HSE roles over the last 12 years, from junior posts to my present role in Senior Management. Existing academic and professional qualifications include NEBOSH Certificate, Tech IOSH (formerly Tech SP through portfolio route way back when gen certs were pre-requisites for associate membership of IOSH), British Safety Council Diploma in Environmental Management, MIIRSM, over 20 minor qualifications & certificates for H&S related subjects, Risk Assessments, Fire Safety, Auditing, etc, etc.
More so I have recently completed a NVQ/SVQ level 5 qualification accredited by institute of leadership & management of which the bulk of evidence related to what I do in HSE matters (plus training). Under the scottish credits qualification framework, this qualification shares similar status as a Masters Degree.
My dilemma is whether to do the Diploma part 2, obtain another VQ to level 4, the new Level 6 diploma or whatever.
My aim is to attain chartered status within the next 4 years.
Given some of the comments in the MIOSH/MIIRSM thread, stating that letters after your name do not demonstrate competency? I disagree, I must be doing something right to get where I am so far, achieving management systems accreditation to ISO 9000, 14000 & OHSAS 18000, IiP, many operational excellence awards etc, including Regional & National winner at this years VIBES environmental awards.
Comments welcomed!
