Hi

I'm looking to start my career in the sphere of Health and Safety, but have found most jobs are looking for experience and specific qualifications.

I currently work for a courier company in a Senior Operations role in South Wales. I am centering my jobsearch around South Wales and Bristol-Worcester M5 corridor, and also the East Midlands where I am originally from.

I have no Health and Safety qualifications so I am looking for a role with training if possible. I do have a History degree and would be happy and capable to acheive the qualifications needed to progress in this field.I am keen, motivated and ready to take on a new challenge.

I would be grateful if anyone has advice on how to go about finding a starter position within this environment, also if anyone knows of any positions that are being advertised locally, then please let me know. I am 26, female (hence the name!!) and single. My email address is hannah.frost@dhl.com.

Thanks in anticipation
Hannah

You might be better trying to find such a role with your current employer. There are many qualified users of this site having great difficulty finding a new job in H & S.

Hi Hannah
You have took a step in the right direction by letting people know you are out there, perhaps their are many qualified people having difficulty finding a new job in H&S, that does not mean you won't find one, don't forget all of these people where unqualified once and some in the same position that you are in now, I know I was, as the last post said try your own company first (bet you never thought of that one) and then let as many people as possible know you are looking, it is surprising how many leads can open up.
Don’t let other people discourage you whether they are qualified or not everyone starts somewhere. Hopefully others will read this post and know of something in your area.
Good luck

Hi Hannah

I was in the same situation as yourself 3 years ago, I eventually managed to get myself a job as a H&S administrator, this lead to me qualifying in the Nebosh general and getting government funding to carry out the Nebosh level 4 Diploma. The previous response to mine hit the nail on the head, badger your own employer for you to participate in H&S, ask them to send you on courses etc but never give up. I wish you all the best and hope you manage to achieve a career in H&S - its worth it. Plenty of study and hard work.

Hi Julie

How did you manage to get goverment funding to do the level 4 diploma?

I am struggling somewhat o obtain H&S funding at all for my company, old excuse has been "H&S is a legal requirement you should be doing it anyway"

Appreciate your secret
