Posted By stevie potts Hi there,i passed my NEBOSH General cert a little over 12 months ago but have had little joy in obtaining employment in the H&S field.I have advised a few local companies on safety issues but fulltime work isnt forthcoming.I would be gratefull of any advice that anyone could give me on getting forward in H&S.I would gladly take a role of junior just to get my foot in the door. Please dont hesitate in dropping me a line, cheers everyone!

Posted By Alec Wood There are very few jobs in this sector in these parts I am afraid. But there are some good agencies around, all I can advise is to stick with it and seek them out. I don't know where you are in the North East, I am on Teesside and there's not been much on the go around here lately. Good luck Alec Wood

Posted By Alec Wood Zenith Recruitment are a good lot to put your name down with. Contact Angela Anderson, she seems to be the main person in there for H&S jobs. They don't come up with many vacancies, but they do seem to put the effort in when it comes to matching people to vacancies. What they do offer you will be suited to you, not like so many of the others, where volume seems to be the most important criteria. Soma agencies here have happily sent me to interviews quite some distance away where CIOSH had been a rigid employment requirement - I have NEBOSH Gen Cert with Distinction, a long way from CIOSH! Wasted my time and money, and that of the prospective employer. Alec

Posted By martin maddra Stevie I hope you don't mind, but I'm in the opposite position to you and would appreciate YOUR advice. I am currently setting myself up to train CIEH courses, but I am told it takes time to build up a client base. So I am looking for part time freelance work to fill the training gaps, using my NEBOSH certificate and maybe taking other useful IOSH courses (such as Risk Assessment and maybe DSE) to give me the opportunity to work ad-hoc in other H&S areas. How did you get on with your part time adviser work, and how did you approach the companies you worked for? Were you being asked if you could provide additional services? Many thanks and good luck with your job hunting. Martin Maddra
