Posted By Richie I currently train personnel in my workplace. Roughly 10% of my time is taken up in this activity, delivering manual handling training and induction courses in the main. I wish to gain a recognised 'adult education' type qualification to improve my employability prospects, but I am not sure which employers will be happiest with. What are employers looking for from trainers? To be clear I am not looking for the technical safety element, just the generic 'trainer' qualification. I would be interested to hear from those currently teaching in centres offering adult education courses relating the requirements to teach in their particular neck of the woods. Ta in advance. Richie

Posted By Allan Kerrigan I was in a similar situation a few years ago(1997) and did an NVQ in Training and Development which is a training qualification, takes you training needs analysis, etc, is recognised by the institute of personnel development (IPD) What level you do, is where you need to be assessed by the course provider to determine this. Hope this helps

Posted By Rad Note the 7307 doesn't exist anymore! I have just completed the 7302 Introduction to Delivering Learning (Teaching) at a local college and passed. Accepted by many establishments as a first teaching qual, then progress to the 7407 part 1 and part 2. Good luck

Posted By Linda Crossland-Clarke Hi Also consider which way you would like your career to develop. You are doing manual handling training now, if you see a "need" or "want" for mechanical handling then the Lift Truck Instructors course is equivalent to the Adult Ed 7407, so will put you in a more safety orientated direction whilst teaching you the same basics of lesson planning, delivery etc whilst increasing your own work skills. Regards. Linda

Posted By Richie Many thanks to all who replied. Linda, When you say the FLTI Course 'is equivalent to Adult Ed 7407', would I be legitimate in stating on a CV: "currently hold Adult Ed 7407"? Sorry to seem picky, but in my experience employers would not spend the time trying to work out equivalent qualifications during the sift process. Especially when those sifting are unfamiliar with each type of qualification. They seem to need unequivocal proof, and I can provide certificates for all other entries on my CV regarding training. Cheers in advance, Richie

Posted By Neville Richie, I would recommend the CIPD Learning and Development NVQ, which you must produce evidence for and for which you are also examined on whilst delivering. All these 7307s and stuff I thought were aircraft types or something. There is no definitive route other than what employers select as their base line courses. Pity there is no common standards across the board for everyone to follow. Regards, Neville

Posted By Linda Crossland-Clarke Richie I would say that I had the LTI Qualification which is over and above the Adult Ed 7407 as it has Assessment and Examination Requirements. If there was a box to be ticket asking me if I had the 7407, then I'd tick it and notate with "equivalent qual" next to it. Employers who don't know or understand safety quals, won't necessarily read CV's and letters of application. They'l scan them for the necessary criteria and then pay further detail to the "possibility" pile. Same with jobs that ask for a degree. I would have no hesitation in stating that I had what was requried, but I would put it in black and white that, say an NVQ Level 4 or 5 etc is equivalent to what they are asking for. This is also a good point for x-forces; civvy street do not understand job roles, command structures or qualifications gained. Spell it out for them, explain how you meet the criteria. OK, off my soap box now.... Linda
