Posted By Oil Man I have been involved in varying degrees of risk assesment and operational safety for the past 13 years. Up until 11 December I thought the Oil terminal environment where I worked was a relatively safe place to be, as long as safety procedures were followed and common sense prevailed. How wrong I was! I was able to study for the NEBOSH Certificate last year which I passed and am now the proud owner of the certificate. My problem now is knowing what to do. I am very unhappy about continuing in my current environment, but to leave would be a huge wrench. I have worked for the company for 18 years and am building a very healthy pension. I am 45 and would be able to retire at 58 if I stay, but would probably need to work until 65 if I move. Any advice or comments would be very much appreciated.

Posted By Descarte What salary would you be looking for and in what area. I have recently moved from Oil refinery to top tier COMAH chemical to lower tier small site which only handles one highly flammble material once a month so is relatively "safe". There are quite a few oil related safety positions in the aberdeen area which are low risk onshore work advising people doing offshore or terminal jobs such as chemists. Salaries can go from 30 - 40 k dependant on company etc.. Have a browse through the many agency websites or the likes of SHP to find something that you like. Depending on what salary you are currently on a career change to a higher salary could mitigate your retirement age by voluntary contributions?
