Joan,
When you say you are in construction, what do you mean ? - are you with a large employer actually building roads, bridges or canals or are you office based with a small company undertaking home improvements ? I only ask because your background to date will be important in determining a good way forward. As you may know in the West of Scotland, there are many academic ways forward so it is often the "experience collection" that acts as the "brake" to career progress.
So perhaps a few more details may help give you some more focussed advice

Hi Joan
Most companies looking for H&S people are looking for as a minimum a diploma. The Caledonian University are doing an accredited diploma which would help you in gaining membership of IOSH
Give them a call or visit their website.

Joan,
There are a couple of jobs being advertised on the West of Scotland branch of IOSH, which may be of interest to you.

Joan,
I completed my NEBOSH Gen last year also and have gone on to Strathclyde Uni for a Post Grad Cert in Safety and risk Management.
On graduation (july/Aug) I should be entitled to corporate membership of IOSH. With my ( ahem - lengthy ) experience in engineering, construction and management, I should hope to move into quite a challenging role. I also find it quite an exciting course and completely different from NEBOSH. Its not an easy route - just very different and challenging. Theres also no final exam, its all done by continual assessment etc.
Contact Colin Thorne at Strathclyde Uni for the next intake
Joe
