Posted By paul cormack I did the SVQ4 in the northeast...of Scotland. Unsure if that's what you were looking for. S/NVQ4 costs can run near £2000, but can be doubled/halved depending on how much work you put into it, i.e. reading through the standard yourself and compiling evidence. Hope this helps/Paul

Posted By paul cormack I would question the continuously repeated suggestion, on the IOSH website, that there is but a single provider for NVQs in OSH. This seems to perpetuate the myth that OSH is the domain of very few practitioners and, in a country of over 50 million people, there can be only one that can award professional qualifications. That's unfortunate, and very incorrect. There are many good quality universities, colleges and NVQ approved centres, vocational learning providers in the UK. Most of them have the support of IOSH and its branch education & developent advisors. We need to work with all of these providers to ensure that OSH NVQs don't become fringe qualifications. Especially at a time when EAL and NEBOSH have agreed that, together, they need to better promote Diplomas/Certificates and S/NVQs for safety & health in the UK.

Posted By Charley Farley-Trelawney Paul You make some really good comments here; most of which I would be hard pressed to disagree with. I assume you are referring to my reply which suggested I would use only one particular provider in the area that the original post had asked for guidance on? I do not believe I have suggested that there is only one provider but considered that I would only use one within my organisation and made a healthy recommendation based upon actual experience of the provider. If I considered going further (NVQ 5) then I would from previous experience only use the one. Of course, there are many available and through a variety of companies/organisations, some of which you mention and long may they continue to offer this superb service; for me however, I will always recommend the one, for it is the one I used and I was extremely happy, it was tough however, certainly no walk in the park! Posted By PaulA Hello there.... The feed back Linda gets on this forum is certainly positive and rightly so.... CFT is right when he endorses her company and if you look through previous threads where people have been stuck and having difficulty with elements of the NVQ.. it is Linda that takes the time to write both a credible and articulate answer to their question... Why did these people not contact their mentor direct...? Thats what you pay your money for isn't it? I agree with Charlie on this one... if you find 'something or someone' that is good in health and safety then let people know! regards PaulA

Posted By Glyn Atkinson I do hope that no moderation occurs through personal endorsements of the particular recommended service provider. (See, still very careful not to advertise directly.) I have read across many threads, and the advice and help given by the recommended service provider always appears to be sound and often not commercially based, just helping those with a genuine need to obtain a quality answer to honest questions. Yes, there could always be a chance that private mails from the threads encourage business, but what the bottom line to me is that those in need get professional advice and help that appears to be sorely lacking from other providers (again no names or accusations here) who may already have been paid to train and enhance the knowledge of this membership. I also appreciate the likes of Hazel and others who take time to look on threads and give an IOSH perspective of affairs, fair play to these moderators, IOSH also need to earn a living through this site, forum discussions and services. What do other members think about this mail - I would be interested to read viewpoints?

Posted By Charley Farley-Trelawney Let’s be clear on this one! A posting was made asking about the intrinsic worth of an NVQ provider in the North East of the Country. Before we go down the road of yellow cards and potential red ones I wish to make it perfectly clear; if a posting comes on the forums asking advice about a certificate, diploma, NVQ provider and I have PERSONAL experience of any of the above and have enjoyed a challenging but rewarding time with the provider & consider it value for money then I WILL give a commendation where suitable. Again; to be certain this posting complies with the current moderators modus operandi for correct content, I have no connection other than actually taking NVQ 4 now 5 with the provider I have suggested by "proposition" in itself as, correct me if I am wrong but I have inserted no links, no phone numbers and certainly no direct advertising in my response. Because I am pleased and consider the provider by suggestion to be proficient, precise, and worthy of the title I bestow upon them, I have no hesitation in recommending the provider as simply brilliant and they quite honestly could have charged me twice the price, IT really was worth it to me. I trust I have complied with posting rules; no doubt the moderators will either erase my responses or allow them to remain on the grounds of professional courtesy, and consider I have not breached the IOSH guidelines for posting. ADVERTISING: Never! RECOMMENDATION; you better believe it! Respect to everyone looking to better themselves. Charley Farley-Trelawney ESQ

Posted By MetalMan Well said Charley. I use the same provider and have nothing but the highest regard. As an ex NVQ Assessor myself I have seen at times that some providers are willing to sacrifice the quality of the service provided to trainees as they have so many trainees to deal with. In this day and age where quality and value for money in any service provided is a rare commodity it really is refreshing to deal with people who not only know what they are doing, but care about the way they do it. As Charley said I have mentioned no names or web sites so I am sorry if this reads like an advert, it's just the truth!
