Posted By phil H&S is about standards, or is it not. How is it possible that some orgnisations..(mostly the non reputable) would require; Safety Advisor pay 12-18K 5 yrs H&S experience, NEBOSH DIPLOMA etc, etc.... and some others, (mostly the reputable) Safety Advisor pay 25-30 2-3 yrs H&S experience Nebosh Certificate etc, etc....

Posted By Paul Price Those companies that pay less seem to me to be the ones who think that H&S is an add on and not a thing that should be part of the structure of the company .We all have a choice I suppose ,the danger will be when the markets flooded and the value of H&S professionals goes down I dread that day as the quality will drop also.

Posted By Charley Farley-Trelawney Can't say I have seen a 12 to 18 advert, that's not to say they are not about, but would anyone with the afore mentioned q's actually apply?? Methinks not, but then again.....what do I know? Local factory advert here for trainee counter balance FLT driver, 2 shifts 6-2 and 2-10 based over 6 day week 38 hours, advert states some H&S knowledge would be ideal...23k to start! This is darkest Somerset where some folks think we still suck straw and drink Zider all day, which really offends me as Sunday is a day of rest! Point is; I've lost the plot completely and this reply reads back utterly wrong so I’m off for a zider and foind me tractor...now just where did I put me straw? Happy Easter one and all C

Posted By Andrew Cartridge Phil There are predators in this profession, who will prey no the more vunerable to fulfill their health & safety requirements, the sooner they are exposed, the better. Also, it would benefit the profession greatly if the people who were placing the advertisments understood what they were advertising for. Rant over back on me head!!! Have a good Easter Andy

Posted By ITK The difficulty is that with more and more people obtaing the NEBOSH Certificate (supervisors and managers course)there are a number of "first timers" looking for a job in H&S. In a nutshell, if an employer sees H&S as a bolt on he will pay as little as he can get away with and lots of people looking to break into H&S there are plenty of easy pickings, thus why you see salaries that compare to stacking shelves in supermarkets.
