Posted By Paul Oliver Noticed a significant number of opportunities wihtin this sector over the last few months and have tried throwing my hat in the ring for a few. However I feel as though the industry does not recognised the transferable skills we as safety practitioners possess. although I do have some experience of constructing gas terminals and working on oil and gas rigs this doesn't seem to cut it. any advice from anyone.??????

Posted By Keith E I have no axe to grind, but feel I should point out, that this is probably help from a recruitment agency. I was speaking with someone last week, with a very similar email address, can't remmber now off the top of my head - but pretty sure it was the same. Hopefully they will be getting something sorted for me, but I'm not holding my breath. If they are recruiters - I feel it is a little 'naughty' not to explain this in their postings on this forum.

Posted By A. L. Ure Hello Paul I have been working in the sector now since 1996 and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I made the transition from being a general H&S Practitioner in the UK and then went out to the Middle East on a two year contact - best thing I ever did in career terms. One thing I would say that will increase your chances is being willing to work outside of the UK, and accept a posting in the some of the less salubrious parts of the globe. Two things I would suggest - check out www.oilandgasjobsearch.com - you can lodge your CV on the site and I consistently get offers of employment through having mine there, (although it has to be said I'm not interested in the majority of them), and the second thing - send your CV to a couple of the major oil & gas operators. BP were recruiting recently, and had a full page ad in the SHP. Also, include the oilfield service companies as well as the majors - Schlumberger comes to mind just as an example. My advice to you is stick at it - particularly if you have construction/offshore experience it's bound to pay off eventually. There are always vacancies for safety personnel in the Russian Federation/Caspian area, Nigeria, Libya, Qatar etc etc. Good luck! Best regards Andrew Ure
