Posted By Todd Hallam I am currently employed as a H&S Advisor for a large construction company and am extremely interested in moving into an Event Safety role. Can anyone give me advice on the best way to do this? I am interested in offering my services voluntarily initially to build up experience in that field. Thanks kindly,

Posted By Robert Jackson Todd, Can you be more specific about what kind of events? I'm currently in the entertainment industry and could offer some advice for you?

Posted By Todd Hallam Preferable is the entertainment industry as I have always had an interest in it in one form or another. Being involved in H&S as a career and going to many concerts and venues I find myself constantly assessing areas and situations so would love to get into it professionally.

Posted By Robert Jackson I've been in the concert/event industry for 6 years and can say it is extremely hard to get into. Industry positions are seldom advertised and those that are go quickly (unless you get a nod from someone within the industry) Best advice is to drop a line to the actual promoters / agents and let them know of your interest, or visit some of the venues websites who may advertise jobs that way. Obviously keep your eyes on the new Stadium and the Dome which is being transformed into a 25,000 seater concert venue (assuming you are in the south) if you need any pointers about anything else let me know and i'll see what i can do Hope this helps Rj

Posted By Simpletom Try local councils as they are the licensing authorities for venues, football / rugby etc stadia, temporary demountable stands / funfairs etc Their pay is not good. Often these guys are ex police. Every football club has to have a safety officer. These are often full time positions for 1st and premimer league clubs but below that they are often matchday only or part time positions. THe Football safety officers association have a website. They have training and nationaly recognised event management qualifications. Stewarding agancies may also be a source of part time employment. Some event organisers want additional help. The organisers of (gay) Pride were / are? looking for H & S officers volunteers (£200 expenses) for this years event - try them

Posted By William i once worked as an crowd safety officer at football matchs when i was at college, i also did music events. you usually see adverts for stewards for events and it is usually part time, but that would be the best way to get a foot in. the company i worked for was Rock Steady Event Safety (or something like that) and they are based in edinburgh but have work all over the country so try them.

Posted By Chris Blake - Safety Works Ltd Todd My colleague John Richardson is looking for a H&S consultant for a one off charity event in Oxford. He organises an annual firework display, and up to 10,000 people could attend. The council/police/fire brigade etc are insisting that H&S is managed more professionally than in the past. Its on 4th November. Please contact me if you feel you can help. Alternatively following your own recent investigations, do you have a suggestion as to who John could turn to? Chris
