Posted By Stuart Scott For those that are in the public sector - have any of the H&S officers out there been through the new HERA process, the process where the salary of your post is assessed in accordence with a pre determined set of guidelines? If so what sort of feed back did you get? What would you suggest is a fair salary for a H&S officer? My post is being assessed tomorrow!

Posted By Philby' Stuart, I've passed a link to your question to our Corporate H&S Manager...he is leading a look at that very question as, within this authority, we have a range of pay scales that Departmental H&S Managers are on with little or no parity...hopefully he will respond ASAP Philby'

Posted By Paul Oliver Stuart, I have been through this process within the Private Sector, and have to say that my job spec faired very badly as it was compared to that of a totally differnet job. The powers that be managed the whole process quite poorly IMHO, and needless to say I left after a short period of time. It also didn't help that the safety manager of a different division within the company doing the a similar job came out two grades higher either. So from personal experience the assessment is only as good as the person carrying it out, and if they have no idea what you do then you are on a loser straight away. Overall a very bad experience.

Posted By John Donaldson Stuart HERA is a hot topic amongst Safety Professionals in the HE Sector at the moment. I do have some views on this which I would not wish to air in a public forum. But feel free to email me for my contact details. John
