Posted By Frank All I am setting up on my own carrying out accident presentations of an accident that I had at work some 3 years ago. The presentation is down line of the human impact and true cost of an accident and how it affects the rest of your life. What I need now is exposure into the market place. I am not offering my services here as it would be breaking the IOSH guideline code of conduct No 2. So I am looking at placing an advert into the SHP Magazine as already suggested from people on here and from the moderators of this forum. Has anyone got any ideas as to where else I can market myself. Does anybody know of any other Safety Magazines that I could approach or any monthly weekly safety news letters where I might be able to get more exposure and be able to advertise my website and a preview of my accident presentation or do you feel that just going the route of advertising in SHP will be enough. Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

Posted By Sheila EJ Keogh Frank, you could try the British Standards journals/newsletters and the IIRSM (International Institute of Risk Management). Also, i would imagine a good bet would be to speak at the IOSH monthly branch meetings. All the best, Sheila

Posted By Frank Hi Sheila Thanks for that. I have already tried the IOSH Branch meetings/Secretaries and I must admit the response that I got other than 2 branches who have booked me in later in the year, was very disappointing hence why I am trying further a field. I have also tried safety groups and associations affiliated with RoSPA and doing my presentations free of charge to registered charities to get exposure but to no avail. I have had very little response which is disheartening but I am not going to give up, I know there is a big need out there as the people who have seen my presentation assure me that it hit home and they have changed their views on safety. I will make some enquiries with the IIRSM. Thanks for your help Frank

Posted By Frank Hi Gary Thanks for that. Yes I already have a website where my presentation can be previewed and I am talking to people about doing a "Remember Frank" Video/DVD. All I need now is to know where to advertise my Website other than in SHP. Any more ideas will be welcome. Frank

Posted By Frank Hi Jim Nice thought but alas I have already been down that route. I sent the moderators a preview of a thread I wished to put on here but it was declined on the grounds that it is a form of advertising my services which is against their code of conduct. Fair Play I don’t want to over step the mark with them. So any other ideas would be greatly appreciated as it is so frustrating not being able to get to 1,000s of people and use my message and try and stop them from having accidents like me. Frank

Posted By snt I would appreciate it if you can give us your website address. Meanwhile, try and contact Open University as they use a lot of video presentations in their courses. You never know, they might be interested.

Posted By snt I have seen preview of the presentation, it is really good. From the presentation, I could see that there are elements that relates to risk assessment, process improvement and the actual accident. What people might be interested to know after seeing the presentation is how it all happens. This will help in honing the risk assessment and process improvement principles on your viewer. To really go it alone, you have to package it as a part of a presentation. On its own it is a powerful message so as other images I have seen personally, but if you go the route of teaching "Managing Safely", you stand a better chance as one who have witnessed it first hand. The other point is whether you have the HSE report of the accident and whether there is any clause barring you from publishing your story by your employer (may be after compensation). Because when you start your prsentation or you have royalties from your pictures, the accident is most likely to be quoted by scholars all over the world. Check this out with your lawyer. As to my email, I have checked your website from your email address. Good luck.

Posted By Bill Fisher Firstly, Frank, thank you for seeking initial advice from the Moderators and more importantly 'sticking' to that advice. As to the suggestion about the Moderators giving a little to allow Frank to 'advertise' I am afraid that is not possible and indeed unacceptable. The Moderators role is (amongst other things) to manage the application of the Acceptable Use Guidelines which are set by Council. We do have a little leeway in some areas e.g. The Friday Rant, but not in areas where our relaxation would create a disadvatage to others who feel that they are entitled to a similar allowance. Equally important, as has been explained in the Career's Forum we cannot be seen to take business/advertisement away from other established areas. We do wish Frank every success in his journey forward, therefore the best response he can get from readers is the suggestions he has requested.

Posted By Frank I appreciate your comments Snt and have already considered what I can do with the presentation, as it is endless, just like the Iceberg. I have only looked at the tip and there is a great deal underneath which is hidden and waiting to be discovered. What I’m still lacking is access and exposure to the people who would benefit from seeing it. The problem that I have is I know the market to hit which is mainly the construction Industry as this is where most accidents and fatalities occur but trying to get the right contacts in that industry is becoming hard. Just sending e-mails out to construction company’s general enquiries isn’t working. I can only assume that they are not being passed on to the right people. Now if there was a big book with all the names of all the Senior Health and Safety Managers in construction then I don’t think I would have a problem. Anybody got such a book? Any more suggestions on getting into the market place would be greatly appreciated. Frank

Posted By Tony Carr Can you turn your presentation into a written article,if so may I suggest that you contact the SHP,s magazine editor and see if you can have your story entered into the SHP magazine. That would give you the exposure you are after. Just a thought, I know there was an article put in on SHP online about a guy who had a work related accident in Australia which was interesting. Worth a try. Good Luck Tony

Posted By Frank Thanks Ron Yes I have got in contact with CITB. They have what they call SHAD, s (Safety Health Awareness Days) which may be a good place to do my presentations. The only problem is whether I have contacted the right people. It’s difficult trying to sort the wood from the trees if you know what I mean. I’m still waiting to hear back from them. But thanks for helping, any more suggestions keep them coming. I’m sure I have missed a load of potential people to get in contact with. Frank

Posted By Michelle Wilson Try contacting your local area saftey groups (not the IOSH branches) - certainly Cambridge (COSG) and Norwich & District have good speaker prsentationsthrought the year and may be interested. Most members work in industry/academia and may be able to utilise your presentation in the workplace too.

Posted By Frank Thanks for that Michelle I have sent out a covering e-mail to all the safety groups affiliated with Rospa and WWT groups. I have had some interest but I think the biggest problem that I am getting is that I am not contacting the right people within those groups which is a shame. Do you by any chance have any contact details for the Norwich and District branch or COSG or any other safety groups? Noiseman Thanks also for the link. Also I would like to thank you John at Health and Safety for beginners.(brilliant site for new people into the health and safety field like me)I really appreciate you putting an article about my story in your newsletter, which has produced quite a few hits on my website and a few enquiries. Can anyone else come up with some ideas where I could put a link to my website to get more exposure? Regards Frank
