Posted By Richie H Hi,
I am currently employed as a H&S Advisor for a Company Overseas & UK interests, however based overseas. It is generally a low risk industry i am involved in with an occassional odd ball for higher risk issues, which i relish.
I have various courses / qualifications and a good number of years experience under my belt. Main courses completed are:
- BSC Diploma (level 6) Managing OSH (compeleted and passed both exams, still writing assignments), once comlete will give me Grad IOSH membership. - IOSH Managing Environmental Responsibility Certificate - Auditor / Lead Auditor Course / OHSAS 18001 - IOSH Managing Safety Certificate - NEBOSH General Certificate - BSC International Diploma Safety Management My question is to all you safety professionals or prospective employers is what is the market like in the UK for H&S professionals / recruitment / salaries etc... and could you provide any other useful advice to get my CV out there into this market? Agencies i hear are not the way ahead?

There is a massive shortage of good [reference removed] in this country; you should have no problems finding work. A recent colleague of mine informed me that an employer turned down an applicant because he had too many qualifications. He wondered how the gentleman in question actually got any work done.
There are plenty of good agencies about if you want a short list please feel free to email me.

Posted By Neal Clark Hi all,
To prevent threads veering off topic and deteriorating into a series of ‘me too’ postings (as this thread is starting too), can I ask that forum users contact each other privately to request copies of information.
In case you’re not aware, once you are logged into the forums you can email one another privately by clicking the name above the forum posting.
Many thanks,
Neal Clark, Web Co-ordinator.

Posted By Richie H Thanks Neal, appreciate the comments i did feel the thread had lost its way somewhat!
Thanks also for the list of agencies however this was one small point in my thread and not the main topic.
I doubt this thread will get back on track but thanks for those responses.

My answers to your questions would be:
The market is very good at the moment; most recruitment is done through agencies as they are in contact with clients and job seekers. Whoever told you agencies are not the way ahead is wrong in my opinion. They are trying to make a crust at the end of the day and it is in their interest for you to be working.
Don’t worry about the agencies who don’t reply to you, concentrate on the ones that do. For a good days work a good safety professional can earn a great salary with lots of extras, £40k + car, pension etc. Contract work can be very fruitful, short term contracting you should be asking £250 per day plus - depending on how good you think you are, but you will need to prove it!! Beware of the companies want you to pay them to find you work, there’s no need.
But apart from that why the hell do you want to come back here? We are taxed to the back teeth, that is if you can find a dentist, you pay over a £100 a month to get your bin emptied! Sorry about the rant!
Good luck again.
