Posted By Glyn Atkinson Can the moderators please have a look through today's replies and let us all know if posting a direct reply or leaving an e mail address is the right way to use this forum currently. One mailer has replied to two posts in these ways, surely not as intended as a stop to advertising? I could leave my e mail address up by replying to those advertising their services instead of placing an advert for persons required. surely this is not the way that replies should be done? So, see the person's advert - reply to them by pm off this forum? Yes?

Posted By IOSH Web Manager Hi Glyn, In response to your request for guidance on what’s OK when responding to a jobseeker on the forum: It’s OK to post basic contact information e.g. I’ve a job that I think you’ll be interested in, please contact me on [email address and/or phone number] to discuss. We’ll remove postings that include a description of the job you’re offering, as that’s advertising the job. We’d prefer those replying to jobseekers to contact them directly but appreciate jobseekers considering using the forum will find it helpful to know there’s interactivity taking place. It’s a matter of finding a balance and we’ll keep it under review to see how things are going. Best regards, Angela Wheatcroft

Posted By IOSH Web Manager Hi Glyn, I've taken some time to respond as we've been exploring the options and how they'll work. For those who viewed an earlier response here, it was removed to give more time to think it through and the advice given then is replaced by this posting. In response to your request for guidance on what’s OK when responding to a jobseeker on the forum: - Those replying to jobseekers should contact them directly using the email supplied. - In case you’re unsure, once you've logged in to the forums users live emails become visible. You just have to click on the name of the person you wish to contact. This will enable you to access their registered email address and contact them directly. - With this in mind, postings by a jobseeker must include a live email link. We’ll lock those without and include a reminder to use a live email. - To encourage other jobseekers to use the forum, why not post a thread to tell people when you've been successful? This is something we've discussed as a moderating team and our aim has been to promote clarity, to avoid creating 'grey areas' and to stay within the acceptable use guidelines (AUGs), i.e. "Users must not use the forums for any commercial purpose (including the advertising of jobs, goods and services), or operate surveys, contests or chain letters, or promote causes or campaigns. Course providers and product / service suppliers must only give basic contact details in response to a request for information about specific courses and / or products." In the AUG quoted above, use of ‘basic contact details’ is what is allowed for those responding on the forums to requests for sources for training and courses and / or products, not jobs. Job adverts should not be posted on the forums. A summary of this guidance will be added to the Careers Forum header for reference. I trust this has clarified things. The thread has been locked. Best regards, Angela Wheatcroft
