Can you put your company name and your position in the body of a posting or is this against the AUG's as free advertising?

Try it, Dave. It might just work?

Take care! And keep fighting the crusade to keep those profiteering, money-grabbing consultants at bay, eh?!!

You cannot put your company name in a posting or indeed in your user name or 'signature'. The fact is that the Forums are intended for professional discussion and debate on a variety of issues relating to health and safety in the workplace; inclusion of the company name will not aid that discussion and debate but may cause the poster to fall foul of the AUGs.

During private (off-line) e-mail communication with individuials then the arguement may actuially be reversed as they are likely to want to know someone's interest in a particular topic.

As for putting your position in the body of a posting etc the situation is a little easier, but I would ask what value that that would add to the posting?

Whilst each action in itself does not breach the AUGs the reality is that by inference the AUGs would be breach by, as you say, advertisement.

In summary when seeking advice etc or in responding to a posting think what information would aid you in each situation and what will add value to the professional exchange.

Bill,

I'm sorry but that's total nonsense. If I want to put my name, position and company next to my name I bl**dy well will. Sometimes people wish to know exactly who they're talking to and want some sort of reassurance, which can be given by naming their company. If I blatantly advertise I expect to have my posting removed - if I just mention my company I don't and this has been the way since the beginning of the IOSH web site.

I have had one posting removed, so will pick my words and tone with care. However, here's an observation... Have we now got more and more rules and regulations on this site than are contained in the MHSWR???

Just a thought!

Take care everyone!

I would like to think not! Dave was looking for an opinion on the posting of Company Name and position. What was posted was just that, but taking into account the changes to the Careers Forum.

At this time with the changes to the Careers Forum the 'ground-rules'in my opinion are settling out and developing.

If someone was to post those details the Moderators would consider each posting on its own merits and the potential for it to be taken as an advert.

As others have said before, posting the details in fact doesn't breach the AUGs, but that information along with the contents of individdual postings may well do.

Again I would ask, when seeking advice etc or in responding to a posting what information would aid you in each situation and what will add value to the professional exchange, that is what it is about.

Bill,

With the greatest respect to yourself and the 'Moderators' I see little point in debating and giving my personal thoughts as at the end of the day, I have no ability to 'remove' or 'lock threads'. I did happen to read Rob T's posting before it was removed and found it a valid point.

On that note, I bid you a pleasant Sunday afternoon.

Take care!
