Hi Kushy,

The careers forum has indeed had some significant changes in recent months, the most significant of these being the move to stop the forum being used as an area for free recruitment advertsing. As a result of this we have needed to introduce several measures to prevent advertising creeping in 'below the radar.' For your reference, a summary of these guidelines are below:

- If you would like to respond to someone stating their availability for work, we ask that you contact them privately by email.

- In case you’re unsure, once you've logged in to the forums you can access a poster's email address by clicking on their name above their message. If they have opted to make their address available their name will be coloured red, and will open a private email link when clicked.

- With this in mind, postings by a jobseeker must include a live email link. We’ll lock those without and include a reminder to use a live email.

- To encourage other jobseekers to use the forum, why not post a thread to tell people when you've been successful?

This is something we've discussed as a moderating team and our aim has been to promote clarity, to avoid creating 'grey areas' and to stay within the acceptable use guidelines (AUGs),

i.e. "Users must not use the forums for any commercial purpose (including the advertising of jobs, goods and services), or operate surveys, contests or chain letters, or promote causes or campaigns. Course providers and product / service suppliers must only give basic contact details in response to a request for information about specific courses and / or products."

In the AUG quoted above, use of ‘basic contact details’ is what is allowed for those responding on the forums to requests for sources for training and courses and / or products, not jobs. Job adverts should not be posted on the forums.

Because of these changes you questioned if the careers forum was still actually for careers. The answer is yes - the careers forum is intended for people to seek careers advice and guidance from their peers, share experiences and indicate their availability for work.

I hope this helps to clarify things - this thread has now been locked.

Thanks very much,

Neal Clark, Web Co-ordinator.
