As you will see from many postings on this forum, getting started in H & S can be difficult. Your best bet is probably to stay with your current employer to get some experience once qualified.

The best place to gauge the safety jobs market is from the Safety and Health Practitioner. Look at http://www.shponline.co.uk/jobs.asp It can show you what agencies & employers are looking for and typical salaries. Good luck

Hi dk,

if you have 20 years exp. and a gen cert.? + const cert. I am certain you would obtain work.

I would try contract work first, while looking for something permanent.

Expect 200 per day for contract and between 25K & 35K for a company role.

good luck anyway

I would find you extremely employable with all the experince and add some new found qual that links with that experience. a combinated with the need to devlop makes you a very good option, as the training polishes the experince and vice versa in my eyes your doing it probably the right way round, as you say you have experince.

I was in a similar position 20+ years experince as a construction engineer, with some safety thrown in got the bug since my early transition did BSC Cert, follwed by NEBOSH Gen, NEBOSH Const, NVQ4 and have progressed from AIOSH, Tech SP, MIOSH & Now CMIOSH, have completed many other training course but feel the experience is what has made be what I am today.

You will need to be carefull you go to a caring sharing company and be prepared to soak up infomartion like a sponge does with water

Summary Go for it and Good Luck,

Dave
