Age 47
Current Role -Shift Supervisor on top tier COMAH site
Current responsibilities-Supervising 20+ company employees and 10 contractor employees in their day to day roles in a high risk enviroment.
Carrying out risk assessments, shift safety inspections, behavioural obsevations, issuing work permits,ManuaL Handling Instructor and feeding the works cat.
Experience-lifelong employment in a various heavy indusrial settings, over 10 years as a safety rep.
Relevant Qualifications-Nebosh general certificate, techIOSH status.RoSPA Trained Manual Handling Instructor.

At present I have no wish to go into a full time Health and Safety role.Im looking to gain more experience over the next three years.
The shift system I work gives me a lot of free time,12 hour shifts 4 on 4 off and 18 days off in every 10 weeks. In a 10 week cycle I work 28 shifts. Its a rolling system so Im off different days each week.
Im looking for either freelance casual work or part time employment in a smaller company that doesnt need or cant afford a full time advisor.Im already in a well paid position so money is not my motivation.
I would consider voluntary work for a charitable organisation for expenses only, although for unpaid work I wouldnt expect to have to travel any major distance from my home in Middlesbrough.
My email address is mark.limon@ntlworld.com

Hi, have you tried any work for local distance learning schemes ?

In my area of North East Lincs, I have previously worked with local care homes who are putting their staff through NVQ caring courses at the local college, of which H&S is an important element.

This has led to some knock on work with assistance on manual handling assessments where faults in the systems have been discovered, Health and safety policy reviews and advice, and one person putting me onto a local schol in need of trip assessments through the governing body of the school.

I also risk assess for a local charitable group giving a social life to adults with learning disabilities.

This would help as experience if you then decided to go across to H&S full time or were wanting to build up a clientele in your local area for charitable assessments in your spare time.

Go through the phone book for those non-national charity shops who cannot afford their own safety consultants - they would probably jump at good safety advice being given for free.

Just a few ideas !
