Please can anyone help,I have been in Occupational Safety and Health for some 15 years, mainly in construction and have experience of large projects throughout this time and held senior positions with major organisations and have chartered status.
I understand that there is a shortage of personnel in the Oil and Gas,Nuclear and associated fields.

People like us have lots of transferable skills and am wondering how you can get a in road into this area of the business.

Anyone have any Ideas as all the Agencies say it is a closed shop and that they can't help???

Not a closed shop, but experience is valued of course. Try posting your CV, ensuring that keywords like 'Safety Case' will be identified by a search engine, on:

http://www.oilcareers.com
http://www.oilandgasjobsearch.com/

Bear in mind many positions are international, and of those a considerable number in places you may prefer not to visit. But these sites also will give you the contact details of some of the recruitment agencies that specialise in the area. Good luck.

Not aware that nuclear is a closed shop.
However, neither is it booming.

A fair number of construction people move into Nuclear, so you are in with a chance. Don't get the idea that the money is anything special though.

There is a slight catch 22 in that you need a job to become a classified worker and classified worker status to easily get a job.

I think what you have been told is that the jobs mainly go to a small number of specialist jobs agencies - ie it might be a closed shop to the jobs agencies.

There is one advertises in SHP - Parsons, however the biggy is Morson.
