Ive just registered here so firstly hello to everyone.

I am HGV driver who is intending to embark on a new career in health & safety. I have no prior experience in this field, but a strong interest for a number of years. I am not sure what field of health and safety would suite me best but have been in touch with my local college who inform me the best place to start is with the NEBOSH certificate, with a view to moving on to a NEBOSH diploma if I wish and are able to do so.

I would like to know if this indeed is the best place to start in this industry ?, also would this qualification alone enable me to find a job ?

I would appreciate all comments and any advice and guidance anyone has to offer.

Many thanks

Gary.

Hi Gary !

You would be on the right lines starting with the General Cert, however if you wanted to look at other options there's also the Construction Cert that basically covers what the General does but with the emphasis on Construction. Constructions booming so it's a good industry to be in.Good luck with your career change mate and do not hesitate to contact me if you want anymore info.

I would agree with JJ; it would be an excellent start and an opportunity to gain much needed experience; once you have the experience under your belt then the dploma would be a consideration for you. Either way good luck, it is an excellent path to take this wonderful world of H&S.
