Posted By Joel Kenny I am due to leave the armed forces within the next two years. I aim to undertake the Nebosh General Certificate as part of my resettlement. I am also considering courses for Risk Assessments, Working at Height and Managing Safely all of which are accredited by IOSH. I also have health and safety responsibilites in my current role which is mainly engineering based. Can anybody give me some guidance in what other courses I should be looking to undertake and any other advice for starting a new career in Health and Safety. joelkenny@hotmail.co.uk

Posted By Paul Oliver Joel,
Having served in HM Forces myself for 10 years, I belioeve can speak from experience.
If you wish to actively seek a role as a H&S professional and have two years to go, you should be looking at completing the Nebosh Diploma or equivalent (i.e NVQ4). This will give an advantage in the jobs market, qualification wise. Coupled with the fact that once you leave the forces you may not have the time or financial ability to complete further study after the Nebosh cert in your early years as a H&S professional.
If you want any further info or advice please feel free to contact me direct.
Regards
Paul

Posted By Neville Joel,
I too left the RAF (after 29 years) and elected to complete the NEBOSH Cert. With hindsight, I should have done the NEBOSH Diploma, as there are far better openings and less restrictions on jobs, coupled with experience.
The provider I used is based in Carlisle and having searched around, I cannot find anyone cheaper, who also attain good outcomes across the board. As you cannot advertise on here, I suggest you look on a search engine for this provider, ie. NEBOSH Carlisle. (PS They are not a sponsored link)
