Hi all,

I hoping to make the jump into consultancy within the next 3-6 months and fingers crossed, have a job lined up working for a small but expanding consultancy firm.

Im really looking forward to it, I need to move on as realistically im as high as I can go where I am and feel that to an extent, im wasted where I am.

Its certainly going to be a welcomed challenge and an opportunity too move up the ladder, its going to be a steep learning curve im sure but im quick to learn and more importantly I want to learn in order to better my self and prove to be a valuable employee to my new perspective employer.

I currently work for a large engineering company and have a lot of experience in a wide field but this is all restricted to engineering/manufacturing and plant maintenance operations.

Can anyone advise me of any ways which I can prepare my self and build on my current experience in the mean time?

Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,
it is worth doing a search of the forums on this subject, which has been well covered in the past, with a lot of good advice and help from people who have taken the same steps as you are suggesting you wish to take.

Good luck with your goals and I hope you are successful.

Chris,

A very good presentation is available from the specialist consultancy group:

http://www.iosh.co.uk/in....news_item&id=855&sgid=9

It is a good presentation and will answer most of your nagging doubts, and also plant a few more!

You might want to check out the rest of their links on this website...

Good luck,

Richie

My old boss used to say "its not how long it takes you to do it, its what it's worth to them".

He was dead right - I can assure you we were very profitable. We always aimed to grow with the smaller companies. The big ones paid more.

Don't price yourself too low.

Dear Chris,

It is really good idea. We also opened a consulting and training company.

Thanks all, for the reassuring words. I have decided to use my current position to its max and build on my experience by getting involved with some different areas and be more involved with our construction contractors to get more CDM experience, for the moment at least.

I recently did some work for a charity that was having volunteers renovate the building. This was also good experience, in more of a consultant role to that im normally used too.

Regards,

Chris
