Hi,

I am really eager to make the jump into construction as a H&S advisor. I currently employed as a regional HSE advisor for a large entertainment organisation, prior to this i worked in manufacturing as a H&S advisor. In total i have 5 years H&S experience working in multi site organisations. Qualifications inc: NEBOSH gen cert, Diploma in H,S & Env mgt, NEBOSH fire cert, C&G 7302 teaching.Substantial experience in auditing, training (CIEH,NEBOSH & IN HOUSE COURSES),risk assessments, liaising with enforcing bodies.Does anybody have any advice on how i can make the jump into construction.

Regards Paul

Hi Paul

Why not send your c.v. directly to some of the larger construction companies in the Major Contractors Group(MCG)who would,I feel,be prepared to take you on with your existing experience and train you in construction methods/systems etc.
For the MCG list simply do a Google search.
I started in the construction industry simply with the nebosh general certificate.
I found it relatively easy as the sytems/procedures are basically common, the only thing was to become familiar with the "jargon" etc.
You don't need exstensive knowledge of building methods as the Site Engineers/Package Managers deal with that so you can pick it up as you progress.
Aim for being a site based Health and Safety Advisor and you will quickly progress.

Hi Steve,

I am based in the North East, not far from Newcastle. My current role requires a lot of travel between sites so i don't mind having to travel.

Thanks & regards
Paul

Hi Paul,

Like yourself, I am currently looking to broaden my experience within the Construction industry.

I have decided to do the NEBOSH Construction Cert despite having NVQ 4 OHSP, NEBOSH Part 1 and General Certificate. NEBOSH are looking at a one week extension course to the NEBOSH General Cert at the end of the year so that could be an option for you.

For me the Construction Cert will give me the more in depth knowledge of the Industry and enable me to apply this in practice on work sites. The course also has a practical site assessment and report writing phase which will be invaluable experience for me.

Anyway, Andy good luck on your new venture.

Regards

Mike

Hi All,

Thanks for the responses which I have received in relation to the thread I started, unfortunately nothing has emerged and I am still seeking the opportunity to transfer into construction. If anybody has a possible vacancy within the North East of England I would be very keen to hear from you, I have a CV available upon request.

Thanks

Paul
