Posted By Alexander Falconer I have been fortunate enough to be invited for a 2nd Interview for a very good position. In this case I have been asked to conduct a presentation from the following scenario - "You have been asked by a senior manager to develop a campaign to reduce accidents resulting in hand injuries (cuts, nips etc). Please give a presentation on what training and information you would design and distribute. Include examples of written material." Not been given too much time to organise this, hence my request for some assistance amongst the fraternity - The issues that spring to mind for the campaign would be - Risk Assessments (provision of the training & process in identifying the risks which result in hand injuries, provision of the appropriate controls to reduce such injuries) This could incorporate additional key contributory factors from Manual Handling (lifting of equipment, motoprs, pumps etc), use of workplace tools, machinery guarding (exposure from drive belts, gears, etc) lifting operations (use of lifting equipment), PPE, etc, etc Has anyone out there got a owerpoint presentation that draws on smilar issues - obviosly will not get anything exact, so I appreciate that some modification will be required from my part Regards Alex

Posted By Rauf Dear Alexander, with a 8 years experience i have seen a lot of hand and finger injuries. Briefly you have to monitor all accidents history if it available and collected in company. Make a judgment see if accidents were preventable in reality. 2.Monitor competency( future I can give you info about Competency Assessment Management) it will be the weakest point of employees 3.Make open discussion and let employees give their concerns and ideas regarding hand and finger injuries 4.Set in house trainings schedule don't let employees forget about accidents. 5.Be sure that daily toolbox talks are conducted. it is not your direct responsibility to conduct but collect daily and weekly talks monitor and review them I can send you one training in PDF file I just received it from International Association of Safety Professionals Best regards If it is not sufficient for you give me feedback i will be happy to help. risk assessment is 10 minute job for me. my email addresses are followings raufmirrashidli@yahoo.com and hse@royaltonholdings.com Best regards Rauf

Posted By Pete48 Alex, try the usual share ware sites for some PowerPoint stuff. Here is one view of what you could consider. Remember you are just being asked to demonstrate your ability to identify an appropriate and relevant approach to reducing the accidents through training and information, the process not the specific content relevant to your prospective employers premises unless you have been made aware of them. That is maybe your presentation?? Who is the audience, what do you want them to do differently and what knowledge do they really need to have to make it work? How much should they do for themselves in order to gain understanding and start the reduction in their workplace etc etc???? Then it is how will we achieve that plan, note it says provide examples of WRITTEN materials, not visual aids--decide what you think that means! Maybe they do not expect you to turn up with a complex set of presentations etc? Just make sure you can talk them through the publicity stuff, maybe with some examples from the shareware or HSE site and then have some simple examples of written materials like a "hand" out card possibly a workplace check exercise for employees to look for potential hand injury siotuations and maybe a launch letter from the commissioning senior manager (written by you signed by the manager) with objectives and reasons. Avoid the technical trap!! Keep it simple. Do you really need to involve others in the risk assessment angle or could you play it that your analysis has shown that accident spread is........then link that with common causes of hand injury. Then just build something to match that scenario. Hope this gives you another view and helps to challenge your suggested approach as a check that it is valid. Please discard this without a moments hesitation if you do not think it relevant, good luck with the interview.

Posted By Alexander Falconer Many thanks for the assistance. Feedback received was "a very good presentation, etc, etc, however after weighing up all the options, have decided to offer to the other candidate" None too despondent, as I still remain positive in securing further employment. As some will say, " its their loss, not mine "
