The question is asking you just that. Do you recall such an occasion? If so then all you need do is explain this when asked; if you can't, then perhaps the position you are applying for may not be the right one for you. Job interviews must always be seen as a two way process; it is an opportunity for you to decide if you would like to work for the company as it is for them to see if you may be the right candidate.

Posted By Andy Brazier I blogged an article from the Sunday Times a while ago. This defined leadership as "the ability to inspire others to strive and enable others to accomplish great things." Leaders nurture the talent of others. I think it is very useful to compare leadership with management. I think leadership is more about inspiring people and letting them get on with the task, whereas as management involves more co-ordination and administration. My full notes from the article are at http://andybrazier.blogs...ers-born-or-created.html

Posted By Simon Shaw I think this is one of those silly interview questions which, at the time, the interviewers thought would be a fantastic question to ask.
'Great Leadership' - like Winston Churchill ?
I suppose they were after an example of when you led the implementation of an initiative, or project through to completion - with examples of how you fulfilled this leadership role.
I think if I were in a similar situation I would have asked them to explain what they meant by great leadership.
I'm sure that the interviewers probably couldn't give an example of their 'Great Leadership'.
'Good Leadership' would have been a better phrase to use, but 'Great Leadership' - do me a favour !!

Posted By anon1234 these types of questions are all about 'competency or criteria based interviewing'. It is generally accepted that those at the interview have the right academic qualifications so interviews are moving away from the pure technical questions to trying to ascertain how you would actually operate within the business. In this case they probably wanted someone who can inspire others to achieve by being the catalyst through having good/great leadership skills

Posted By Simon Shaw Yes, I do agree with anon1234 that everyone attending the interview will have the level of qualification asked for - NEBOSH cert, diploma, degree, etc..
Health and safety management is about getting others within the organisation to do the health and safety stuff. So they want to know how you go about getting everyone to it.
How did you lead the implementation of OHSAS18001 / ISO14001 ?
I just have a problem with some of the language used - 'Great Leadership', 'Inspiring Others', etc.....etc.
I don't suppose the job was for Director-General of the United Nations was it ??
