Hi,
I am currently working in the maintenance/construction sector and have been for around 3 years.
The advice I would like is on a possible career move, I have the chance to move across into the logistic industry, a better position, better pay (by far - nearly 40% increase!!!). My only issue is that a colleague reckons if I moved to logistics I would be narrowing my chances for further advancement, however I have been in safety for 8 years and have moved across three industries and believe that I am adaptable in this way.
Has anyone been in logistics and moved to another sector or has anybody enjoyed a career in logistics and would like to comment?
Thank you in advance for any help/advice.
Regards
Karel

....But seriously, I have moved a few times (and have refused a few moves) and I can honestly say I have never lost out of any new job. Yes I may not have liked my newest position but there has always been a new thing to learn, new people to meet and new revelations about my own skills....
I have listened to friends and colleagues but really only my opinion matters as it is my career.
Only you will know if the move is right, best of luck either way.
Cheers

40% increase no brainer especially if you feel happy with the role, and level of responsibility.

If you don't take the position do you think you will regret it? Moving around to new fields in this industry can stretch you but will make you more rounded.

As we are feeling in literary mood, 40% increase is big but remember those words from Sunday School.
"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
But on the other hand when you grow up and read some George Bernard Shaw he is quoted as saying that "Lack of money is the root of all evil."
No help there then.
How about from the East " a path is just a path and there are many paths to choose: it is the steps you take along your chosen path that are important".
As usual with Eastern philosophies, there is an answer in the guidance, if you can see it.
But then I could just give you my opinion.
I cannot see any reason why logistics would restrict your future in H&S in any way.

Thank you for your help.
I have decided to put faith in my ability of adaption and I believe this challenge will only bring out the best of me, Oh! and the 40% wage increase helped.
