Please can someone advise me?
I plan to start the NEBOSH certificate in November and looking forward to it. I unfortunately do not have a background in Health and Safety as I have worked for the Civil Service for the last 13 years dealing with disadvantaged people.

Can anyone advise me on the likely-hood of finding work in the Health and Safety field where I hold a NEBOSH Cert but have no experience?

Thank you for any advice.

Regards.

Gordon.

Probably very low, there are a lot of very experienced people out there with all sorts of qualifications competing in the market.Have a look at my entry on here.I have a lot of experience on a high risk site but I would hate to be looking for a full time job with only the qualifications I have at the moment.
It can be a long process unless you are young and lucky enough to work for a company that will train you.Hope I havent discouraged you, look into getting experience through getting involved at work now, safety committees, union courses etc, good luck,Mark

In principal I do agree with Mark; there is always a however, and if it really is your intention to move into the H&S field, then it is possible if you look long and hard and be prepared for a few rejections. You will almost certainly need to look for an assistant position initially, this will give you some good experience and allow you to be mentored by others that have been in this industry for a while. There is of course always the chance of being in the right place at the right time.

I wish you all the best.

I would say slim to none!!

I have 6 years experience as a health and safety manager (predominantly in ship building and ship repair) and one year as an enforcing officer. I have NEBOSH cert and diploma, SHEM NVQ4 and just completed my degree in safety, health and environmental management.

In the process of looking for new job and am struggling to get an interviews!!!

Try shp4jobs.co.uk (link to shp magazine on home page of IOSH will lead you to it)

Good luck!!!
