Posted By Lindsey I have been involved in health and safety for over eight years and am a technician member.
My experience and background is predominantley Warehousing and distribution Management but I have had some experience in the food manufacturing and Telecommunications industry.
I have been unable to find permenant full time employment in the North West and would appreciate any advice.
I have completed the NEBOSH General Certificate and NEBOSH Fire and Risk Assessment Certificate and currently studying the NEBOSH Construction Certificate. I thought this would give me a head start above all others that are newly qualified NEBOSH General Certificate holders.
Only I am finding that all positions advertised - even as low as Administrator are requiring a minimum of diploma level or CMIOSH membership.
Even though the courses I have completed to date have been self funded.
I am unable to fund the Diploma and gain the qualification.
How can I gain full time, permenant employment and be taken seriously?
I have over eight years experience and working knowledge but not to diploma level!
I have applied for numerous positions and the feedback i have obtained is - excellent knowledge, excellent qualifications, would be more suitable to a management position.
So I apply for a management or advisor position and the feed back is: excellent knowledge, excellent qualifications but not got diploma be more suited to a co-ordinator or administrator position.
Please advise as I am hoping not to become disillusioned in my chosen profession of health and safety!!

Posted By Descarte They are certainly out there, just keep trying, sometimes the people doing the recruitment or interviews dont know what there looking for and cant see a good thing when it slaps them in the face, blinded by letters and qualifications they see in safety magazines or other advertisements they feel they are compelled to have a CMIOSH and those that do know see your experience and feel that you are unsuited to a junior role.
I am sure you will soon find the perfect job, just keep trying, though there are lots of jobs out there they often dont know what they are looking for :-)

Posted By MP Grayson Apply for those jobs anyway. The employer may be after a Diploma but if the pay is too low they will not get anyone. So they will be forced to lower their sights. That could be your opening and a way for obtaining funding for the diploma. Its then down to you to prove your worth. Go for it, whats the worst that can happen?
