Posted By Deana Daniels Hi I am looking for a quality Asbestos Surveyor training course (BOSH P402 Building Surveys & Bulk Sampling for Asbestos) Can anyone recommend a provider? I have been looking at NATAS. Does anyone have any experience of this company which they can share?
Many thanks

Posted By Steve Cartwright Hi Deana
I used NATAS for the P402. Found them very good. The guy who trained us had 20 years hands on experience in the Asbestos industry and gave good practical advise for when you are carrying out Type 1 & 2 surveys.

Posted By Nigel Evans Hi Deana
I have been through the P402 and sent about 6 staff on the course my view in general is that the P402 course is of low quality and does not prepare one well enough to take on the role as an Asbestos Surveyor. There is no substitute for working alongside a good surveyors for 6 months.
As for the training I would recommend the NIACs route which is a lot more thorough and of higher quality. Google it and you should find providers.
The P402 is a good starting point, I would avoid any Bedford based organsiations offering the training.
All the best.

Posted By Adrian Watson Dear All,
Both the P402 and NIACs course provide a knowledge base; neither make you competent. To be competent you need experience; working alongside good surveyors for 6 months is a good way to do this providing you get to see a wide range of building types. Two hundred surveys of the same type of house allows you to survey that type of house well!
All the best.

Posted By Dave Wilson You can't get your P402 from BOHS until you have completed 6 months on site supervised, and with presentation of suitable reports.
You do not need NIACS or ABICS if you work for a UKAS accredited company these schemes are for people small business who are not UKAS.
I agree that some of this is a joke.
I did mine with 13 others and 7 of them were sent on the course by the Dept of WP (dole).
AIB can be found in soffit boards and .... hand goes up "What's a soffit board?"
3 days late this person could be surveying your property for asbestos!!

Would be rude to comment about a competitor.....
One of the main challenges with many of the P modules these days is that the training organisation cancells the course - I suggest you ask to speak to Max Lopacki at NATAS and find out how would be running the course how many would be on it and who would be the tutor and the BOHS assessor, and what happens if they cancell
Ah Mr Wilson you are still alive - regards
There is still a demand for competent surveyors - with regards to NIACS I believe that there are less than 20 people who have completed the qualification, and I certainly agree with the comments re competence - from reading his comments Adrian seems to sometimes approach things from a different angle but I do agree with him on this - I think that you will find that most UKAS inspection bodies require a baby surveyor to do at least 6 months post P 402 before even considering them for sign off as a T2 surveyor for easy surveys.
Regards
Bruce
