Posted By tonyo Hi, I have just passed my NEBOSH General Level 3 and wish to pursue a career in H&S. I have 17 years experience in management covering most occupational health and safety. Over the last week I have registered with a number of H&S agencies and recruiters but have had very little response if any, could it be the time of year? Anyway Im looking for a few more avenues for next week when I Presume most people will be back to work, has anyone got any good pointers or where I should search next or am I doing things the right way?

Posted By Mike Foulds Tonyo I have been in a similar situation to you, Gen cert qualified with many years operational H&S experience but in a retail and distribution management role. I have just landed a good H&S manager role within a distribution organisation, they wanted people management experience as much as H&S, there are too many H&S people out there who just have not got the people or management skills (sorry if that offends anyone). This is your route in. You must get a good CV which is H&S based, I found that many of the agencies were poor but there were a few shining stars as well. Arrange to meet them its a good selling opportunity, get your CV on to all the usual job sites, Monster, CV Library, jobsite etc and get jobs emailed to you. I had a list of websites both agency and web that I checked every day. Another key point is do not be put off by job ads that say must have Nebosh diploma, I have got many an interview due to my Management knowledge, you can also get the diploma at a later date. Grad Iosh is a great start as its shows you have good H&S knowledge. The CV is the key, I will gladly send you a copy of mine if you send me your email address (I will of course change/cut out any personal info) its useful to get some ideas and feedback. Do you have any HR contacts who can help? Its also worth going to the local IOSH branch meetings for networking opportunity. This is a great time of year to find a new role, just get focused and sell what you have got. Best of luck for 2008
