Posted By srd Hi Tony. Why not sign up for a subscription to Safety and Health Practitioner (SHP), there should be links to this from this IOSH website. Or better still join IOSH, as membership includes a subscription to SHP. SHP is where many of the H&S jobs are advertised. In the meantime there is the SHP website at: http://www.shp4jobs.co.uk where you can find health and safety jobs, or perhaps try www.jobcentreplus.co.uk. Searching for jobs on the SHP site will also show up some of the many recruitment agencies that specialise in health and safety jobs. Good luck in your job hunting. Stephen.

Posted By Bob B Tony. Good luck with this one, I am in exactly the same boat. I Find shp4jobs good and reed.co.uk (type in safety into the job title). One note on the recruitment agencies, after spending weeks putting together CV's registration forms and in one case driving 100 miles to see someone who will 'manage my career', I have heard nothing (9 months in). In some cases, I have sent all my details off and they haven't even bothered to reply. I hope if you choose this route, you will have better luck than I have. It seems that the only people who take a NEBOSH cert seriously is the H&S profession itself. It seems that all employers want (in most cases) is a Diploma and bags of experience. In my case, I have taken on extra work in the profession I am currenly in to pay for more qualifications and I am activly persuing any experience I can get. Good luck. Most people on this forum will tell you to keep trying and sooner or later you will make it. Let's put it this way, I'm not giving up. Good luck.

Posted By Jim T Hi Just a note on recruitment agencies - Often they will contact you just to obtain your CV and details to hit thier monthly candidate targets. So it is more about their own self preservation and target bonus, rather than your career development. These agencies are very well rewarded when they do place a candidate, often charging the client 20% of the yearly wage offered to the person who fill the post in question. You are ALWAYS better off dealing with a company yourself! Jim

Posted By Bruce Sutherland Chaps agencies usually charge far more than 20% of a salary - it would probably cost us over £10k to appoint a CMIOSH on £32k via an agency - that is basically most of the profit on the first years work - GO DIRECT Bruce

Posted By Nick Higginson I agree with Bruce. Contact prospective employer's directly and ask if they have jobs. Can't speak for other employers, but for us attitude, ambition and drive are more important than a Diploma. Kind regards Nick
