Hi,

I’m a Belgian Chemical Engineer and I wonder what the UK equivalent is of my “ Safety and Health Advisor Level I” diploma. I obtained this diploma last year in October after ending a 2 year post academic program at the University Antwerp Management School. This program includes about 440 contact hours, exams, papers, team projects and a final project.

Just out of curiosity, can somebody also inform me about the “hierarchy” of NEBOSH diploma’s and other OSH diploma’s in the UK?

I’m also looking for a new opportunity, preferably within a production environment, where I can use my experience in process technology, quality, safety and health. I’m aiming for a job which requires both technical skills and people management skills. It has to be in an international environment, and I am willing to move abroad (ME, Asia, SA, Africa) together with my partner.
I’m 31 years old now and I have a background as Master in Chemical Process Engineering.
At the moment I am working as Head of the Quality Control department in a manufacturing company. I am since more than 3 years closely involved in projects regarding Environment and Safety and Health at work. (experienced in HAZOPs, Explosion Safety Documents, Risk Analysis, Accident analysis, committee meetings, Monitoring plan for CO2 reduction, etc…). I also have a certificate of Internal Auditor.

My CV is available, if interested please send an e-mail to stpeeters@hotmail.com

Thank you in advance for your comments,

Kind Regards,

SP

SP76,
Your Belgian Level 1 Diploma for Safety Advisers appears to be roughly similar to the NEBOSH Diploma level 6 as it is of similar length and content and as it is at graduate diploma level, depth.

In the UK the academic frameworks allow for a number of different types of qualifications at a similar level to be available. One of the most well known, although not now the largest is the NEBOSH Diploma. This is at level 6 on the UK framework which is an undergraduate degree level equivalent. The largest number of people qualifying now use academic qualifications from universities as their entry or progression within health and safety practice. These are all listed in 'about membership' to the left hand side of the screen. Also available are skills based qualifications such as NVQs.

IOSH Membership is now recognised well beyond the UK, so if you are considering moving between countries it may be useful to have a recognised designation which a lot of countries use as a benchmark. Also IOSH Chartered Membership will give you access to, the soon to be launched EurOSHM (European Occupational Safety and Health Manager) designation and reciprocal arrangements also exist with the BCSP in the USA.

Your qualification would give you entry to Graduate Membership and once you completed IPD Chartered Membership. There is a lot more information in 'about membership'.

Contact me directly if I can be of more assistance.
