Posted By johnny Hi Guys, I would appreciate your advice on the following: I have just completed my NEBOSH Cert and would like to further my education in this field. I am currently in a security/HSE role for a global engineering company which i have been for the last 18mths but finding it very frustrating as i am left to my own devices and no one seems to really care. I am 23 years of age and have recenlty thought of going to uni to crack the BSC in HSE. Will i have better career prospects if i enter a grad role on completion or am i better off staying in my current role? I just feel i cant gain any more expeience in my current roles unless i am working with a HSE expert. The majority of HSE high hazard work is completed by the client in the oil & gas industry. I understand their is a lack of graduates that many emloyers are looking for...especially in the oil and gas industry & construction industries which is where i would like enter. Im thinking if i become a grad then i could gain an exciting role with very good career prospects and eventually working overseas. Your advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Posted By Carrell Hi Johnny, I was in pretty much the same boat; no-one in the company to take guidance from and left to my own devices. However, the company let me do the NEBOSH diploma part time and as I did this I started to put things in place at the company gaining valuable experience as I went along. I then embarked on the BSc part time whilst continuing to gain the experience. I left my emplyer in the end because I did feel that I needed experience from other people (was looking for an assistant manager type role but didn;t get anything in the end). Well, my current position aside, I do think that if you can get qualifications at the same time as gaining the experience there will be nothing stopping you from getting everything you need from the situation. Take what you can from a company that is leaving you to your own devices, I learned loads and was really proud of the procedures & controls, etc. that I put into place from it. Hope all goes well. Carrie
