Posted By PS James, I had applied for several Construction H&S Manager positions in Dubai and the salaries on offer depended on the size of the companies recruiting. The less appealing salary offerd to me (family man with 2 kids) was 60k all in, if you are single then this salary may stretch in Dubai but I would not like to try!! Maybe someone can confirm if this is the case? If you have kids and want to live a little add another 20k minimum to the amount above to compensate for the extra bedrooms and schooling. If you are really serious about a life out here I would say one thing. Be prepared to be shocked at the level of safety all around you from driving on the roads to work practices, its like going back in time, however with initiatives like Build Safe Dubai emerging and the increased number of very good construction companies investing in Dubai, safety is slowly on the ascendancy (like everything else here). Go for it, your a long time dead! Cheers James

Posted By Andrew Daft Hi James, I was out in Dubai for the last six months back in 2005 earning 40K. I also had to pay for my own accommodation. I was out there as a single guy, but with bills to pay back here. I would suggest that the previous comment re circa 60K would not be far off by now. If you take the family, maybe another 10K unless they pay for schooling. I would also suggest that you contact the Dubai branch, a gentleman called Toby is very helpful. If you get the opportunity to go, I would recommend it, it is certainly an experience. Kind Regards, AD

Posted By Dav I agree with PS's comments, there are shocking things everywhere you go, including the bloke i saw pushing an elderley man in a wheelchair down the motorway entry slip road the other week. However, the lifestyle is excellent, and if you dont like it, just come home, and youve lost nothing. Ive only been here 2 months, but am loving it so far. 60k for a single person would be fine. When considering wages, bear in mind that while some things are expensive such as drinks, cars are cheaper and petrol is about 20p a litre. Ive just bought a new car from a main dealer that was 10k cheaper than the list price in the UK, and the finance on it was 3.9%.

Posted By Wayne Harris James, I have placed a few postings on Dubai, including a guide to salary packages. The guide I have indicated below is now easily available in Dubai for people with the right background and qualifications. You just need to know where to look and also remember there are good and bad packages just like the UK. £50,000 - 60,000 per annum Tax Free salary Free Accommodation or Allowance Schooling Fees Paid 4 - 5 weeks holiday + Public holidays 4 Wheel drive vehicle i.e. Nissan Pathfinder Free Petrol Card Annual Pay Rises (normaly between 8% and 20%) Annual Performance Bonus (Normaly 1 to 3 x monthly salary depending on peoples performance) Based on the above package you could say that to earn the same in your hand in the UK you would be looking at a UK income of at least £125,000 plus. If you need any further info email me. Wayne
