Posted By murray-t Once again a request for an opportunity to start a new career in H&S or as a trainee CDM-C. I leave the Navy in July 08 and would like to work in H&S,(Construction) or as a CDM-C within traveling distance of Plymouth. At the moment i am a Tech IOSH & AIIRSM. I hold a NEBOSH cert in construction, i have done the Site Management Safety Training Scheme, Five Day First Aid Course, Scaffold Inspection Course and at the end of April i will be sitting the NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management exam. I have been involved with H&S within the RN for the last 10 years but in more detail within the last 2. If anybody would like a Trainee Site Manager, Trainee H&S Advisor or a Trainee CDM-C, or if you know of anyone who might then please let me know. (murrayandchris at blueyonder dot co dot uk. Thanks.

Posted By Anthony Edwards Hi There, I assume you have enrolled with various agencies and receive SHP etc. I left the Royal marines a year ago and am now fully employed as a H&S consultant but am afraid we do not have any openings at the moment so I know what you are going through. My advice would be to ensure that you CV is up to scratch try to relate your H&S experience in the Navy to that of 'civvie speak' do not sell yourself short!! This is Devon jobs is also a site worth a look. good luck Regards Nutty Edwards

Posted By Murray 68 Thanks for replying Nutty, your right about joining various agencies, i have joined one or two and as for sending out my CV well i've lost count of how many i have sent. I know everyone has the same problem, but i get a bit peeved when i send off CV's and covering letters but don't get any Replies either good or bad. still i'll keep trying and hopefully a job will come along soon. murray

Posted By Tim Murray, Stick with it, I am sure someone will give you an opputunity. I left the army three years ago and managed to get a foot in the door, and am very much enjoying civilian life. As well as posting on here. It might be worth making a post on the association for project safety website, and the insitiute of civil engineers. As for your CV, I didn't follow the resettlement advice, email me direct in you would like to discuss CV/Interview aspects. All the best

Posted By Anthony Edwards Murray, Have a look at www.shponline.co.uk/myshp.asp don't log in, click the jobs tag on the top of the page and look on the left at the type of jobs. there were a few in the south west under health and safety adviser. Remember on your cv to ensure that your health and safety experiences and not your military career are on the cv. (mention promotion highlighting management skills, fire fighting cse's and budgetary responsibilities) Good luck Nutty

Posted By Jim Walker Ensure you declare on your CV any security clearances & vettings. I assume you have SC+ & DVA etc?? Google "security clearance jobs" and you might come up with a further list of jobs

Posted By johnny Murray, Definately take Nutties advice ensuring that your CV is `civvie speak`. I left the royal marines 2 years ago and luckily fell straight into a HSE trainee role. I eventually got the job at the interview but my employer only just gave me an interview as my CV was related too much to the Forces. I think its key that you get a good CV in civvie language. Cheers, Rambo

Posted By murray-t I would like to say thanks to everyone who has taken the time to reply to me so far. At the moment i have someone who was previously in the forces but is now doing well in H&S looking at mu CV so hopefully it will be a lot better when i get it back. I have been offered an opportunity to join with three other people to form a H&S Consortium as a self employed associate. I'm going to shadow one of them until i leave in July to see if this is want to do. I'll let you know what happens.
