NEBOSH vs IOSH? - US Expat looking for H&S Jobs

Hi, I'm new to this... I've just moved over from the States and have been a HS&E professional with experience in aerospace and polymers industries for around 5 years.
I've recently started my job search in the UK and realize that employers & recruiters put a quite a bit of emphasis on NEBOSH IOSH certs/diplomas. As far as qualifications, I have equivalent US OSHA, HAZWOPER certifications and a BSc degree in Chem/Environmental Engineering.
I'm starting to get called on a few interviews but am concerned about my current qualifications. Any advice out there on whether I should go for the NGC or IOSH Managing Safely? What other good certifications are available?
I was hoping that my future employer would be able to support NGC through my continued training within the company as it's quite a pricey certification! Any advice?
Thanks!

Hi Eileen,
Are you a member of the ASSE? If so, there are equivalents with IOSH in terms of level you will be accepted at. Do contact Hazel Harvey at IOSH who can let you know the details.
By the way - if you have been a full time professional for 5 years, the Managing Safely course will not be of any use to you.
best regards
Rob

Eileen,
If you are a CSP registrant from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)we do have reciprocal arrangments for membership.
If you are looking to undertake a UK qualification, have a look at about membership on this website (over to the left) and you will find lists of accredited qualifications. There are quite a lot available from Universities and other training organisations. For professional practice you really should be looking for a degree or level 6 taught qualification or a level 4 NVQ.
IOSH don't offer qualifications that give a level of membership, our programmes are awareness training for managers and others who are not health and safety professionals, so to practice you should be looking at one of the accredited programmes.
Contact me if you need any further assistance.
Hazel Harvey
Director of Professional Affairs.

Hi Eileen,
I don't know if I can be of much help, but I'm a US expat who has just made a move into health and safety specialist recruitment (from general commercial recruitment). Feel free to contact me at michele.garrigan@shirleyparsons.com. If I can help, or point you toward someone here who can, I'll be happy to!

NGC is much better than IOSH Managing Safely.
With the qualifications you have you should be able to apply for membership of IOSH at least TechIOSH level, probably higher. You might have to sign up as GradIOSH then undertake CPD for 2 years.
Good luck
