Posted By Kerry Hooper Hi all, I have just got out of the British Army and am a bit stuck. I have just found out I passed the NEBOSH general certificate that I took in Feb. I passed with a distinction. Which I was really pleased with. My question to all you experienced H&S gurus out there is what shall I do now? I have about 10 years worth of H&S experience in the Army but not sure what that equates to in the civilian world. Any hints, tips would be greatly received. K Hooper.

Posted By Tim Kerry, I left the army a few years ago, there are quite a few ex forces on here, so i am sure you will get some sound advice, it would be worth knowing what type of experience you have gained, and what area you are in. Please email me direct. Well done on your distinction. Regards

Posted By MP Grayson Congratulations on your result. My tips are: 1. Diploma! 2. Remember the days when you gave a squaddie, gunner, sailor, airman etc a simple job to do. And it got done. Get used to the fact that those days are in the past. 3. Diploma! 4. Sort your enhanced learning credits out. They are a great asset. 5. Diploma! 6. Don't expect too much at once. You can have all of the qualifications in the world. But without full-on experience, it ain't worth diddly-squat. I, like you had years of experience dealing with H/S in the forces. But it was all as a secondary duty. Don't discount it, get it all on your CV. But be ready to work at getting that first three years full time experience. 7. Diploma! 8. Oh, did I mention doing the Diploma. Best of luck. Must crack on.

Posted By Pez Hargreaves Kerry, I have also just left the sevices, (two weeks ago in fact). Tips are try to equate what you did in the services and put a civilian spin on it, you will be surprised what you know and the responsibilities you under-took during your carreer. Good luck and well done on your results. Get back to me if you require any further advice or info.

Posted By Anthony Edwards Kerry, I left the Royal marines about a year ago so am aware of what you are going through. Firstly think of what field of expertise you had in service and what civilian job area do those skills equate to and do you want to stay in that field. Due to our background we are normally confident in front of individuals so training could be an area to look into. Where you want to resettle/willingness to relocate. And as mentioned earlier the Diploma is the next positive step especially with ELC's. If you want any further advice drop me an e-mail regards Nutty
