Posted By john cornhill Hi can anyone advise me? In the near future i would like to move to cyprus. I have a Neboshh Diplomma part 2 in health and safety and 3 years experience as a health and safety manager in the manufacturing sector. My question is will my qualification be transferrable and what are my chances of continuing a career in health and safety in cyprus? John

Posted By Sheila EJ Keogh Perhaps you would benefit from a "holiday" in cyprus but concentrate your efforts on sounding out the job market there. I should imagine the range and volume of health and safety jobs is likely to be much smaller than it is in UK. Perhaps your first call could be to the british embassy in cyprus (larnaca?) to see if they have a team that can give you some pointers.

Posted By Alan Hoskins Legislation in the Greek sector is very much based on UK law, so you shouldn't have many surprises there. A somewhat different approach to construction though... Alan

Posted By Keith Davies - Wales John The British High Commission is the diplomatic representation of the British Government in Cyprus, they are based in Nicosia, the island's capital. The Address is: British High Commission Alexander Pallis Street (PO Box 21978) 1587 Nicosia Telephone: (357) 22 861100 Although the majority of younger Cypriots speak English to be accepted you would have to be fluent in the mother tongue. There are specially trained EURES advisers in all EU/EEA countries, whose job it is to support those seeking employment in another EU/EEA country. For more information and contact details Isuggestyou havealook at the EURES Web Site. The public employment services in Cyprus are attached to the Department of Labour of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance and operate centrally and at district level. There are district labour offices in each city. The Nicosia District Labour Office: Tel. 22303555; The Limassol District Labour Office: Tel. 25804400/415; The Larnaca District Labour Office: Tel. 24304567; The Paphos District Labour Office: Tel. 26822799; The Famagusta District Labour Office: Tel. 23812052. Majority of the work is obviously very seasonal in the pubs, clubs and bars etc. Most full time positions still seem to go to 'locals'. I last lived out there in 2004 with the Armed Forces and to be brutally honest, safety was not hot their agenda. My opinion, retire to Australia, a good safety officer out there can earn upwards from 150K Australian dollars in the Sydney area and they are not shooting at each other between borders. hope this helps
